Introduction to Fetal Heart Monitoring

This one-day instructor-led course is designed to prepare the nurse who is new to fetal monitoring practices. The course is designed to meet the AWHONN recommendations “Antepartum and Intrapartum Fetal Heart Rate Monitoring: Clinical Competencies and Education Guide, Sixth edition”. The course includes:

  • Maternal-fetal physiology
  • Assessment of maternal-fetal status
  • Standardized NICHD terminology of fetal heart tracings
  • Interventions based on observed fetal heart tracings
  • Verbal and written communication
  • Antepartal testing/Assessment of fetal well-being
  • EFM instrumentation
  • Legal implications of fetal monitoring and obstetrical care
